People sometimes ask me where my story ideas come from. That’s a difficult question to answer. Sometimes it’s a fleeting thought. Or something someone says that lingers. Mostly, it’s from that quiet space. You know – when you take a minute to daydream and thoughts like clouds make shapes in the sky of your mind – bending this way and that way to make meaning.
Sometimes, the shapes wrestle with each other – one trying to push it’s way to the front and say – listen to ME. I’m the loudest. Sitting in stillness, is important for any creative venture. It’s about quieting the mind so the essence – that knowing presence that lives in all of us can emerge. I like to think of this as a wise self, a brave self, who is untethered by the tedium of the everyday – who can soar and take flight. Each morning, I scribble down these thoughts until they grow and take on a life of their own – until they want to be written down and become a story.
I hope you enjoy them.
